The cost of Medicare went up in 2016 over 2015 for some people but not all.
Medicare part B premium went form $104.90 to $121.80 per month. For those who are new to Medicare in 2016 turning 65 or starting Medicare disability or who are not collecting their social security checks.
Your Medicare part B premium can not be raised if there is no cost of living adjustment in your social security check if you are collecting one. That is why this year like in years past we have large groups of people paying different amounts for Medicare part B.
The Medicare part B deductible also went up this year from $147 to $166 this affects all who are on Medicare that are not on a Medicare Advantage plan also know as part C.
The Medicare part A deductible was increased from $1,260 to $1288. The cost per day for days 60-90 in the hospital increased from $315 per day to $322 per day. The lifetime reserve days per day increase from $630 to $644. The cost for days 21-100 in a skilled nursing facility
increased from $157.50 per day to $161 per day.
Medicare part B and D premiums are also means tested so if you are a high income wage earner you will pay more for both of these programs. This will be discussed in a future posting.
