Annual Enrollment will be extended until the End of the year.
Victims of the summer hurricanes will be eligible for a special enrollment period. The normal lives of so many Americans have been affected by these hurricanes. Medicare states: “ “If you live in an area that's been declared an emergency or disaster, the usual rules for your medical care may change for a short time.” Affected areas are areas that have been declared an emergency or disaster zone by an executive authority.
Medicare beneficiaries will be granted a special enrollment period allowing them to cancel their plan or switch Medicare health or prescription drug plans out to the end of 2017.
All Medicare beneficiaries will be able
to change their plan until December 31st.
Individuals who need insurance through the Affordable Car Act’s insurance exchange will be granted a special enrollment if they had an ACA special enrollment during the hurricane and where not able to make a selection. This designation will not extend the Open Enrollment period for the marketplace.
Medicare Annual Enrollment ends December 31st.
