Medicare

Medicare is linked to entitlement to Social Security benefits, but it is possible to get both Medicare and Medicaid.  States pay the Medicare premiums for people who receive SSI benefits if they are also eligible for Medicaid.
If you get SSI and have Medicare, you will also be eligible for Extra Help with Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage without filing a separate application. See the web site at: www.socialsecurity.gov/medicare/prescriptionhelp/.

Medicaid

Florida Medicaid is the state and Federal partnership that provides health coverage for selected categories of people in Florida with low incomes. Its purpose is to improve the health of people who might otherwise go without medical care for themselves and their children.

Eligibility Standards include: 

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Florida, a U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien, in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or very low income. You must also be either pregnant, a parent or relative caretaker of a dependent child(ren) under age 19, blind, have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or be 65 years of age or older.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

House Hold Size  /  Max Income Level (Per Year)

   1  /  $15,800

   2  /  $21,307

   3  /  $26,813

   4  /  $32,319

   5  /  $37,825

   6  /  $43,331

   7  /  $48,851

   8  /  $54,384

Contributions from Friends and/or Family
Veteran's Benefits
Interest
Worker's Compensation
Annuities/Rent
Child Support 
Unemployment 

Income that does not count: 
Home Equity Conversion Plans - Reverse Mortgage
Vendor Payments 

Assets that count are: 

Cash 
Checking or Savings Accounts 
Stocks
Bonds 
CDs
Annuities 
Real Property 
Trust Funds 
Life Insurance 

Assets that Don't count are: 
Personal Residence 
One Automobile
One Household Goods 
Irrevocable Pre-paid Burial Contract or Burial Funds up to $2,500 per member
