Turning 65 Testimonials Learn About Medicare

I am turning 65 this year. What do I do and when?

9-6 Months from age 65

Begin by meeting with an independent broker/agent to learn about how Medicare works and what options you will have available for coverage. A Sun Coast Agent is appointed by nearly every major company, our goal is finding the plan that best fits your wants and needs.

An agent who works with one company only has that specific company's goals in mind.

Note: If you are already collecting your social security check, there is nothing you have to do to enroll in Medicare. Social Security will conditionally enroll you in Medicare Part A & B, and your card will arrive at the address on file 3 1/2 months before the month you turn 65.

3 Months from age 65 - Enrollment

Congrats! Your Initial Enrollment period starts 3 months before the first day of the month you were born. During this time you are able to enroll in any Medicare Supplement, Prescription Drug Plan, or Advantage Plan available in your area. Call Sun Coast Legacy Advisors to make an appointment for an agent to come to you.

2 Months before...

Let your employer know about your decisions, to ensure a smooth transition from group coverage to Medicare coverage.
If your spouse/dependents have coverage under your employer's plan, begin making arrangements for them to have coverage when you switch to Medicare.

Your Birthday Month

Happy Birthday! Your Coverage will start the first day of the month you were born. By now, you should have already selected your combination of coverage. If you have not, you still have 3 months before your Initial Enrollment Period is over.
Exception: If you were born on the 1st day of the month your coverage will start the 1st day of the month before you were born. For example, if you were born on August 1st, then your coverage would start on July 1st.

- Check that you have your Medicare card.
- Make sure you have cards for any additional coverage you enrolled in. - Tell your doctors and pharmacy about your new coverage.

If you have questions or are confused if you are liable for any of these costs, than book a meeting with an agent. The goal is to lower your potential cost as low as possible while still receiving great medical care when you need it.
