When Can I Enroll in Medicare Advantage?
If a Medicare Advantage (Medicare Part C) plan sounds like the right choice for you, you should monitor when you are eligible to sign up. Our Central Florida insurance agents are ready to help you.
There are limited times when you can enroll in Medicare Advantage or make changes to your plan. The first opportunity you have to sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan is during “open enrollment.” That’s also the first time you’re eligible for Medicare. Open enrollment extends through the seven-month period that begins three months before you turn 65, includes the month of your 65th birthday, and is over at the end of the third month following the month you turn 65. You can sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan anytime during this period.
There’s also an Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). This is when you can review your current Medicare Advantage plan as well as any new options available where you live. AEP kicks off October 15th and runs through December 7th every year. It’s critical to work with your licensed insurance professional to determine your needs and select the plan or plans that would be appropriate for you, before the December 7th deadline.
If you are getting Medicare because of a disability, you have an extra opportunity to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan. The seven-month enrollment period for individuals with disabilities begins three months before you become eligible for Medicare disability, includes the month you become eligible, and is over at the end of the third month following the month of your eligibility.
An Additional critical period to remember is the Special Election Period (SEP). SEPs are granted for various reasons. A few examples of these reasons might be Low Income Subsidy receipt, moving to a new area, or plan terminations.
It’s important to be aware of these enrollment periods and stay in touch with your licensed insurance agent at Sun Coast Legacy Advisors. We can make sure you have the opportunity to investigate all of your Medicare Advantage options and help you select an appropriate plan for your healthcare needs. today.
